As a volunteer at Freedom Ride you can. . . Give the Gift of Freedom - help a challenged rider experience the mobility and joy of horseback activities! Give the Gift of Strength - our riders benefit physically and emotionally from the interaction and therapy received from riding and caring for horses. Give the Gift of Friendship - join a wonderful relationship between rider, horse, and volunteer. Give Yourself a Gift - fresh air, great people, and good fun! What difference can a few hours make?...Find out by volunteering at Freedom Ride Freedom Ride's dedicated volunteer team is the backbone of our organization. There are many areas in which volunteer assistance is appreciated: greeting riders and parents as they arrive for classes; participating during classes as a horse handler or side walker; providing horse care; grounds maintenance; office duties and special events. Volunteers who work in the classes with the students and horses must be at least 14yrs old. Junior volunteers are between the ages of 10 and 13 and can assist with barn care. Freedom Ride needs assistance 7 days a week and operates both mornings and afternoons. Volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation prior to assisting with program activities. The orientation will give you an overview of therapeutic horseback riding, the history of our organization as well as an overview of the many volunteer opportunities available to you. During the orientation you will participate in hands-on training focusing on Barn/Horse care duties and Side walking/Horse handling responsibilities. At this time there is a Registration fee of $20 due, this is a NON REFUNDABLE fee. (With this fee you will receive a Freedom Ride Volunteer T-Shirt). Freedom Ride has a comprehensive intake procedure for new volunteers, which includes checking references and a basic background check. Please download and complete the Volunteer Registration Form along with two Letters of Reference and return them to us one week before the orientation date you are attending.
