Exercise 4 - Assessing what you’ve learned

By now you have learned quite a bit about web design, html, and css. What you have learned to date is the foundation of what you will need to build your experience as a web designer. You have learned about things such as site planning, conceptualization and research. In addition you now have experience with image optimization, so that imagery loads fast & has the best appearance possible on the web.

Probably one of the most frustrating things about web design is that it is far more difficult to control your design & layout in comparison to designing in a graphics program such as photoshop or illustrator. You have learned that tables can assist in controlling your layout. Although you have not explored the power of CSS tableless layouts yet, you did gain a working knowledge of Cascading style sheets and how vital they are to current web page designs. CSS provides a way to style your content of your web site that is separate from it’s HTML structure. If set up properly it can enable a designer to edit and maintain many aspects of a site in far less time.
